Vitamin K consists of a family or compound of substances that are mostly used for blood coagulation. "Vitamin K" is a general term that refers to these multiple substances.

Benefits of Vitamin K

Vitamin K's most prominent role is making sure your blood clots normally. It also has an important role in helping your bone structure develop normally and reducing the risk of fractures. Vitamin K is commonly used for infants to help their blood clotting, for people who bruise easily, and to counteract blood-thinning medication.

Because vitamin K is important for blood clotting too little vitamin K can cause easy bruising and problems with blood clotting. No negative effects have been found for consuming too much vitamin K.

Vitamin K Foods

Vitamin K is found in many green leafy foods such as spinach, broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, yogurt, eggs, and fish oils. Recommended daily intake is roughly 90-300 mcg.
