Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is an essential nutrient humans must consume. It is a water soluble nutrient and one of the best known antioxidants and is commonly consumed in supplement form.
Benefits of Vitamin C
It helps protect your cells from free radical damage giving you healthy tissue. It helps to heal wounds, can help lower cancer, supports the immune system, helps shorten the effects of the common cold, and helps with scurvy, cataracts & diabetes.
There are no major toxicity issues because it is water soluble and easily excreted in your urine. Vitamin C deficiency can cause more colds, illnesses and lack of healing in wounds.
Vitamin C Foods
Many citrus fruits including, oranges, lemon juice, and papaya and also in parsley, broccoli, bell pepper, strawberries, cauliflower, bell peppers, and Brussels sprouts. It is suggested to consume 60-120 mg a day. Consuming more than 2,000 mg (2 grams) may cause diarrhea.
