What is Lithium
What is Lithium
Lithium (atomic symbol Li) is the lightest and least dense metal that is found in the earth's soil. For a non-biological role, lithium is commonly found in coolants to reduce heat and in batteries. There is some uncertainty in the scientific community as to whether lithium is essential for the body.
Benefits of Lithium
Lithium is used as an antidepressant often to treat depression and to balance mood swings. It has also been used in the treatment of migraines and alcoholism.
Deficiency issues are not considered a major concern by scientist, however, it is debatable as to whether a lack of lithium may cause mood swings. Toxicity issues, mainly from treatments, may cause twitching, tremors, and poor production of thyroid hormones.
Lithium Foods
Lithium is found in plants that are grown in soil rich lithium, seaweed, dairy, eggs, and potatoes. Although there is no specific intake requirement, it is suggested to consume 2 mg per day.
