Calculate Body Fat Percentage

It can be difficult to accurately calculate body fat percentage by yourself. To get the most accurate measurement it's best to consult with a professional who does this often.

Your body fat percentage is the total weight of your body fat divided into your overal weight. This differs from your body mass index, which suggests what your weight should be based on your height.

Calculating your body fat percentage is considered a better gage of your overall fitness than calculating your body mass index because it more accurately measures your body fat without taking into account your height or weight.

Your total body fat is divided in to two types:

  1. Essential Body Fat - This is the minimun amount of body fat the body needs to function properly and survive. For women the percentage range is 8-12%. For men the range is 3-5%.
  2. Storage Body Fat - This is the fat under the skin and around your organs. The main purpose of this fat is for protection of your organs.

To calculate your body fat percentage use the calculator below. This may not give the most accurate reading you could possibly get, however, it will give an excellent gage to where you stand.
